Nora Roberts: Romance Novels by the Hundreds

As the first inductee ever into the Romance Writers of America’s Hall of Fame, Nora Roberts is responsible for more love affairs than Casanova, Don Juan, and Wilt Chamberlain combined. (Well, at least in print.) The author of more than 200 romance novels, Roberts has achieved New York Times best-seller status with each of her books since 1999. Books of hers that have been made into movies include Angel’s Fall, Blue Smoke and Carolina Moon.

Nora Roberts Travel Tips

Nora Roberts lives in Boonsboro, Maryland, just over an hour’s drive northwest of Washington, DC. Stay at the luxurious Inn Boonsboro, which she co-owns with her husband Bruce Wilder. The restored 1797 building has eight rooms named after famous fictional romantic couples, including “Eve and Roarke” from the In Death series by J.D. Robb (one of Nora Roberts’s pseudonyms). Roberts even wrote a trilogy set at the Inn Boonsboro, kicking off with 2014’s The Next Always.

In Boonsboro, visit Turn the Page, an independent bookstore operated by Nora Roberts’ husband Bruce. It features a complete selection of her books, and she does book signings here several times a week. Also, check out the big Civil War history section (Boonsboro is close to the 1862 site of the Battle of Antienam) and sip organic fair-trade coffee.

Hungry for Italian food as well as hot lovin’? Dine out in Boonsboro at Vesta Pizzeria, owned by Nora Roberts’ family. From hickory-smoked BBQ chicken pizza to creamy hot crab dip, hearty dishes abound. Or dive into the selection of craft beers at Dan’s Restaurant & Taphouse, operated by Nora’s son (you guessed it) Dan.

Nora Roberts was partially inspired to write her Cousins O’Dwyer series by visiting Ashford Castle in Ireland’s County Mayo. Learn how to fly magnificent Harris hawks at the on-site Ireland’s School of Falconry.
